Gold Cup: Lobi, Sunshine Share Spoils In Battle Of Stars

Sunshine Stars played out a 1-1 draw against CAF Champions League side, Lobi Stars in their  Matchday3 tie of the Gold Cup Tourney on Saturday in Akure.


Lobi Stars who lost to the tourney' s 'giant-killers' Cynosure FC by a lone goal on Matchday2, took the lead against the Owena Waves in the 54th minute.

Former Owena Wave striker, Alimi Sikiru took advantage of Sunshine Stars poor defending to set up Alex Aghahowa who  rattled the net with a low drive shoot from 20 yards.

With the minutes clock tickling  away with Lobi Stars set to claim another 3points, Ayo Adejubu rescued Sunshine Stars scoring the equalizing goal in the 82nd minute.

Adejubu from Lobi' s half, beat his marker, raced with the ball and chip the ball past goalkeeper, John Lawrence from 18yards to the bottom right corner of the net.

Lobi Stars have now got 4points from three games while Sunshine Stars have a point.

Meanwhile, in the other games played earlier on Saturday, Kwara Utd maintained their unbeaten run of form as they beat Phoenix ACF 2-0.

Tijani Adamu and Mohammed Hussein scored in half to give the Harmony Warriors the victory.

Not a good one for Mountain of Fire and Miracles  (MFM FC of Lagos) as they lost  2-0 to Cynosure FC in their second game of the pre-season tourney.

Cup holders Nigeria will defend their Africa U23 Cup of Nations title in Egypt in November after the Olympic Eagles secured a robust 5-0 win over their Sudanese counterpart in the final qualifying leg at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba on Tuesday evening.
