NIGERIA RECALL MIKEL, VICTOR MOSES


Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh has recalled Mikel Obi, Victor Moses, Odion Ighalo and Ogenyi Onazi for two friendly matches against Cameroon and Congo next month.

Mikel, for one, last played for Nigeria in November 2014 against South Africa in Uyo, while the non-invitation of Watford star Ighalo was widely criticised.

However, Nigeria dropped Haruna Lukman, who flopped against Tanzania in a 2017 AFCON qualifier, and recuperating Izunna Uzochukwu who got injured in the same game but has just returned to training.

Mikel was dropped from the first squad announced under Oliseh's era due to communication gap, Moses was left out due to 'small' injury and Onazi was not listed due to suspension after his dismissal against Chad in June.

Nigeria face Congo on October 8 and the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon three days later in Belgium, as the Nigeria Football Federation ensure a more cohesive national team within a short.

The winners of the preliminary round between Swaziland and Djibouti will host the Super Eagles on November 9 in a 2018 FIFA World Cup first round qualifier, with the Eagles hosting the return leg in Nigeria eight days later.

All invited players are expected to arrive in Belgium on Monday, October 5.

Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan, Monday evening in Ijebu-Ode, emerged the winner of the maiden Governor Dapo Abiodun Pre Season Tournament. Cup holders Nigeria will defend their Africa U23 Cup of Nations title in Egypt in November after the Olympic Eagles secured a robust 5-0 win over their Sudanese counterpart in the final qualifying leg at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba on Tuesday evening. A brace by Ndifreke Effiong and one each by Taiwo Awoniyi, Sunday Faleye and Sunusi Ibrahim ensured a 5-1 aggregate win for the 1996 Olympic champions, and they became the fourth team after hosts Egypt, Zambia and South Africa to earn berths in the final scheduled for 8 th  – 22 nd  November.
